A Young Paparazzi engages the Culture.

Blog EntryAug 9, '11 2:19 AM
for everyone

I have a suggestion.

“Selfishness” should be added to the science  school curricula as one of the airborne diseases.

Not that it’s airborne in itself but just because the rate at which it spreads can only be equated to that of an airborne disease.

I won’t remind you of the tired cliché “all men are born selfish” actually, I have just remembered yah…

It was Beyonce Knowles who once had one of her music albums titled “Me myself and I” .  I wonder how much sales that generated because anything that appeals to ‘self’ today sells like steamy cake.

Am told this is one of the first tests you are given if you want to verify whether you are selfish.

1. Take a group photo.

2. Get it printed.

3. See who you will look out for first.

It won’t be your neighbor, it won’t be your relative, it will be "you'.

You will look out for ‘your' face first.

Welcome, now you know we are many selfish people out here.

So let’s sit up and find out, what really is the face behind this selfishness .how much difference would we make in the world if we all woke up tomorrow with someone on our mind who is not us? Imagine a day without you being on your mind?

That’s why Ancient scripture has a lot to say about this airborne disease It was Apostle Paul who penned.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition; or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, (Philippians 2:3)

Even  Galatians 5 lists "selfish ambition" as one of the acts of the sinful nature.

But the one who nails it for me really well is John the Baptist. He had the honor abit equivalent of leading the president’s advance team. He had been set to prepare the way for the arrival of the long awaited messiah, that means he had the privilege of calling the shots, I mean, he was like Jesus’s number two.

He could have boasted about leading Jesus’s Advance team. He could have begun most of his conversation sentences with the phrase “for me” or “I”. He could have dominated conversations with stories about the schools he went to,his family, job and likes and dislikes. He would have frequently  interrupted his cell members while they are explaining something to make his own point,he had a right to dominate conversations .

But he didn’t.

Instead he said something quite startling,

“May I become less and less and may he become more and more” (John 3:30)

Wow!

What if all of Jesus followers used the same line in our workplaces,, homes and schools “He must become greater; I must become less.”

May be the divorce rates would drastically reduce. Maybe there would also be less mini divorces (read heartbreaks).

Perhaps a world filled with selfless people would smell much better.

Phhh….

How about that?
